Mind and Body Center Our experience has been that in order to optimally treat the mind, we also must treat the body. More current research supports the inter-connection between mind and gut. We spend time getting to know gastrointestinal symptoms like reflux, diarrhea, constipation, and nausea. Treatment for these symptoms not uncommonly includes modifying the medication regimen or timing schedule, and we emphasize non-medication strategies like optimizing fluid intake. Mind-gut connection aside, there are so many other ways our mental state can translate to bodily symptoms. Some examples we regularly encounter include skin picking, pimple popping, hair pulling, nail biting, itchy skin, and body checking. Of course, this is not an all-inclusive list. Issues like these tend to pile on the stress levels. As such, stress management treatment angles include mind or body, and is usually a combination of both.
